I think you have to be an Australian citizen before you join the military. I think the Australian Army will assist suitable recruits gain citizenship. But I have never heard of them doing this for someone who is actually living overseas. If you are serving in the US military, you might be able to transfer to a branch of the Aust military, but I don't think this would automatically give you citizenship.
