We had a case of a guy who had beaten his wife and threatened to kill her and their baby. He punched her around and he was convicted and put on probation
He was charged again a few months afterward for Domestic Assault and Battery and when he was brought to court the Judge let him go again even though he had violated his probation. He went home, picked up a 12 guage shotgun, and pulled the trigger of the weapon aimed at a 8 month old baby!

All I can imagine is that if the doctor was sentenced to something stronger, it would interfere with his ability to practice medicine and cause the couple financial difficulties inconsistent with a first offense. The days of single-judge court cases should be ended and all cases should be heard and judged by tribunals, with one of the judging panel being a member of the public as an extension to jury service. That tribunal member should have the right, enshrined in law, to approach the Home Secretary directly using their jury reference to report any sentence which he/she feels is too harsh or too lenient and the Home Office should then be required, again by law, to intervene. It should be their duty to question the tribunal concerned, have all the evidence reviewed by in-house legal experts and take action as they see it being appropriate including the sacking of judges if necessary.

It's poor judicial sentencing but he did not get away with it because he was a doctor. A management consultant walked out of court with a fine for 2k last week after branding his wife with an iron.

Whoa, without even knowing what happened you have all jumped to the conclusion that the man, an intellectual at that is guilty of wife bashing, the judge with collaboration and guilty as hell. It is wellknown that domestic cases are the hardest to judge, no judge in this world will ever know the truth. Its one word against the other and it can be blown out of all proportion. Have we considered the remote possibility that the wife was lying? Does it make any sense at all for a husband to viciously bash his wife for sleeping in the spare room? 24 times she was punched, I used to box in my youth and I can't remember how many punches were thrown at me. Why 24, could be 23 or 25 ? Obviously this No.24 was suggested to her by the prosecution as they have to be precise when they present their case to court. This also proves she was lying on this. If the wife had said about 20 blows, the testimony would have been more credible.
