How long is the visa cap for H-visa?

I am on H4 visa since August 2006.
If I get H1 visa in October 2008, how long can I have H1 visa?
Will it be for 6 years or just 4 years (since I am on H4 status for 2 years i.e 2 yrsH4 + 4 yrs H1B = total 6 yrs)

You may remain on an H-1 Visa for no more than six years, regardless of what your former visa status was. Student, spouse, etc.
