no he can't get in trouble for that if they have been married for 6 years. To obtain a green card for permanent residency in the U.S. you must remain married for 2 years. Fraud is only when you get married to obtain a green card and get caught during the application process.

6 years is quite a while for a marraige of convience. My guess is that they may have fallen in love somewhere.
She would most likely be long gone after she got her greencard (and possibly filed for abuse to get more stuff off him and so as not to lose her status) if it were really of convience.
