Deported immigrant made her own choices why do the pro illegal think she’s a martyr lifted to hero status?
Arellano, 32, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, had holed up in a Chicago church for a year to avoid being deported. She has a son, Saul, 8.
Then rather suddenly (and rather surprisingly), Arellano left the church last weekend to attend a Los Angeles rally for immigrants’ rights. After she spoke there, she was promptly arrested and sent back to Mexico. Her son is staying with the family of the Methodist minister in whose Chicago church she found refuge for a year.
After her arrest and deportation, Arellano told the media, “They were in a hurry to deport me because they saw that I was threatening to mobilize and organize the people to fight for legalization. I have a fighting spirit and I’m going to continue fighting.”
Well, OK. She can do that. Certainly all sides need to be heard when it comes to the continuing dilemma of illegal immigration.
However, Arellano suggesting that she was deported because she was an activist is a stretch. After all, she remained in that Chicago church for a year, with authorities aware of her presence, without being arrested. Authorities said they did not do so because they did not want to cause a scene where someone might be hurt, so they waited until she emerged.
No, perhaps Arellano was deported because she was here illegally and brought that to the attention of authorities -- even flaunted it. And because in the past she had used someone else’s Social Security number to maintain a false identity.
Jim Hayes, director of ICE in Los Angeles. “She was a criminal fugitive who is in violation of the law.”
True. And unless and until the law changes, Arellano -- who made her own choices -- should not be lifted to hero status.
Answers:
she is no hero in my eyes just another illegal getting sent back to where they belong
I don't consider myself "pro-illegal"- I just think there should be a reasonable compromise here.
And, I agree with you. I am way angry that she could just "hide out" from the law. A judge specifically ordered her to leave - HER as an individual, and, she run and hid. I think she is hurting the cause of the undocumented by this, and, by the fact that she stole IDs to be here and is now demanding "rights".
I think putting her up as a "poster child" is going to badly backfire. She is a coward who hid. She did not fight for her beliefs. She hid. That is cowardly and I find it offensive to our country on more levels than I can express.
Elvira was a great late-night horror movie host on TV.
This one was another Sandy Sheehan. Used and abused.
I suggest US citizens try this stunt in Mexico and see what happens...
Has anyone moved from UK to USA?
Would someone tell me how she got off on not going to jail for using a fake SS number when any other American citizen would have been sent to jail for it .
Here's one better: if Elvira "illegal" Arellano re-entered the US illegally in 2000 (according to almost EVERY news article written on the subject), how then could her 8-year-old son possibly be an American-born anchor baby citizen of the US? Just do the math, and tell me how that works out.
and the question is. . . . . where?
Ms. Arellano was simple women who let herself be used by others to promote amnesty and in the process became self promoting and self serving herself. In the end she paid the price of losing her son, by allowing him to choose between her and his way of life, no 8 year old boy have the maturity to make that decision. In the end she is no hero, as times passes she will fade into a very sad women that made the wrong decisions for most of her life
