Surveillance video, of a rocking incident in June, shows an undocumented immigrant being swept away in the canal. As the Border Patrol Agent attempts to help the immigrant, an alleged smuggler throws not one, but two rocks at the agent. The Border Patrol Agent was forced to take cover in his SUV, while the immigrant is washed down stream.
Border Patrol says, a recent rash of incidents have agents on alert and with reason. Last year, a 2 inch rock split an agent’s head wide open. The gash, so big, required more than a dozen staples. But Border Patrol says he was fortunate, “if you could imagine that if that rock was a little big larger, it could have taken that agent’s life.”
The Border Patrol says deadly force is the last resort. But if necessary, agents are trained to ensure their safety.

Definitely. Rocks being thrown at a person would be considered a deadly weapon and should be acted upon. If you life and well being was being threatened, you would use whatever means you had at your disposal, and with an officer, a gun would do the trick.

Yes, rock throwing is definitely a form of "the use of a deadly weapon" just like a gun, baseball bat, knife, brass knuckles, metal club, etc. I believe the Border Patrol Agents should be armed and should shoot-to-kill in self defense, ABSOLUTELY!

I would agree that this sort of incident requires attention. The deadly force forementioned in my opinion is applicable in any circumstance where imminent danger is present. The hidden immigrants between the rocks who also cause their own peril in the smuggling process can be documented as such. Mainly it is to identify clearly the geographical section where these types of incidents occur and are most likely to occur and premeditate a defense, which can be examined and documented for future training in border protection.
