Why do some refuse to learn English if they want to live in America?
(no racism comments please, it is only a question)
Answers:
I want to work in the usa, how do i get info about visas?
Because they figure that the less they know, language and customs, that the more government aide, sponsered into law by the democrat party, they can collect for nothing. Why pay for anything when the liberals can give you what I worked for?We allow it. That's the simple answer. We have instructions in several languages. We have tests in many languages and don't forget signs.( Alto)
Imagine they had an emergency and had to communicate something to an English speaking person? And as for racism,,,,,,,,,
Just kidding.
how about this for legal immigration status?
But Most third world illegals come to the U.S. for personal economic reasons. Most do not come to cherish our democratic system. Many so called "immigration rights" groups "fan the fire" with their rhetoric which encourages immigrants to preserve their culture and language at tax payers expense. Among some of these groups, the word "assimilation" is considered xenophobic.
So PROUD of their culture and heritage...?
Because they are filthy humans who come here not to better themselves or the country, but to plunder it for themselves.
i am confused about illigal immigration!!!?
Because they're lazy, self-entitled jerks.
you ask a racist question but don't want racism comments? wow
The GREAT thing about America is people are FREE to live how they choose. If they CHOOSE not to learn english, that is their RIGHT.
America actually doesn't have an official language but I agree with you. "No hablo, mexicana punta!"
how long does it take to receive a Canadian passport after application?
laziness, disrespect, stupid? who knows, I am sure each one has their own reasons.
Who thinks we should just annex Mexico?
because why should you have to when all things are in two languages and you always have option 1 or 2 on the phone, you must as a business have the ability to reach out but that is only if you are an american business if you open a mexican business in America you do not have to advertise in two languages nor do you have to have people that speak anything but spanish and we as the lawful citizens of this country will make sure you are welcome even if you are illegal so why try to learn the language you just do not need it here when in 20 years time the county you know as America will be but a mirror image of the country you left
In any amnesty are the people given it required to learn English to be citizens?
Stai Zito!
(Means shaadup in Sicilian...)
Don't try to sweeten bigotry... You are asking an ignorant question and trying to make it seem all nicey nicey so as to avoid the ramifications, is cowardly and Bigoted!
I personally love languages... Listening to them, learning them and speaking with people who know them and all of the culture that made THE GREAT AMERICAN MELTING POT what it is today, for their presence, language, culture and influence...
I say we get rid of people like you... because personally, I think that Bigot, is the ugliest language in the world!
They don't care. They can get along without it because we allow them to. We cater to their ignorance.
Could we give the illegals amnesty if.?
Your right. I'm of Puerto Rican/Italian-Irish descent and I'm fluent English. What pisses me off is that many Spanish-speakers who are fluent in English don't even bother to speak English and carelessly speak Spanish even if non-Spanish speakers are around as to rub it in their face, and more often than not I'll get some hispanic customers who will expect me to take care of them in Spanish because they didn't bother to learn English, or just use Spanish as a crutch. I have a friend who is full hispanic, and he goes through the same thing because hispanics want to lean on Spanish, or their just plain ignorant and could care less. In my opinion, native and other languages should be kept at home and at gatherings, not in public places, I consider it impolite. I don't want to sound like a racist here either, I respect the Spanish language and I'm proud of my Puerto Rican heritage, but I'm also an American and English is the official language of this country whether anybody likes it or not.
CITIZENZHIP?Im very happy im a permanent resident of EEUU.?
Some just don't have the resources to learn it... besides, this day and age, America is almost half immigrants, so there isn't really a need to learn English. Immigrants get jobs without speaking English, so their view is that there is really no need to learn English...
"We will vote them out of office."?
Because our liberal politicians feel this is a way of gaining more control over them by keeping them stupid. They will be able to control them with more ease and have larger voting blocks.
Does anyone know how to HELP me with a Immigration Issue?
Because most of these people don't want to integrate into american society (partly because it is f-ed up although not any more than any other society).
Also, sometimes these people live in clusters or neighborhoods where they have everything they need available to them in their own language. Why would a latino bother to learn english when he can go work for a spanish speaking boss who pays him under the table (no tax stuff to worry about), he can go shop at the mexican owned store, and he can go eat at the taqueria just around the corner, and send his kids to the school where they HAVE to teach spanish OR ELSE...?.
I have one guy on the bus (I commute to work) and he has been in the US (from what I can understand) close to 20 yrs. YET, this guy's english is so bad, that I'm lucky if I can understand 1 word out of a phrase (and I speak spanish too).
Still this guy is at least trying to speak english, many of them just don't bother.
I came to the states (from eastern Europe) a little over 20 years ago, and 5 years after comming here, one could barely notice my accent.
I believe this is the "melting pot". They don't!
Why do we need to give constitutional rights to ILLEGAL Immigrants?
First of all this is not a racist question, it is a legitimate question that deserves a real answer not racist remarks. I have wondered this myself because it would make life easier to speak the language of the country you are residing in, we are moving in May and although English is spoken there we are also learning Romanian out of respect and common sense.
Here's a link. Whats your opinion after reading it?
it is not maditory.
They are putting up signs now in all lanuages. And if you go to the dmv they speak english and spanish.
it shows you how we evolve. Way back when they did not cater to the germans, polish or any other people. But now we must bend over backwards. It makes no sense.
What is life like in New Zealand?
The better question is why are we forced to learn other languages to communicate here? I've heard many reasons, everything from outright refusal to extreme pride in their homeland, as to why they won't learn English. The U.S. does not have a designated official language, yet we are still a predominantly English speaking Nation. This wasn't a racist question, it was a cultural question, and a good one. I don't think there is a real reason why some wont learn English, but I think those that do should are better prepared for the changes of living in a different country. If they want to keep living like they did at home why did they move here in the first place?
Do you think trading more family preference for everyone illegal 'touching back' buys anything?
Wow. I don't agree with the previous respondents that have called you racist for asking this question. It's a relevant question. I think if people are going come here, they need to learn English and become fluent. It's frustrating trying to communicate with people who don't know the language. I've dealt with it a lot with wait staff in restaurants.
Where I live they are the majority. They can always find someone who speaks their language and makes concessions for them. Since English has not been made our official language, local places overwhelmed with people speaking other languages, found it impossible to keep up with all the translating and whatnot, so they made forms in multiple languages. This is simply adaptation. However, it creates a vicious circle. By allowing the current local majority to dictate how things are run and doing so in their language greatly reduces their motivation to adapt. This applies to everything from multi language forms to sanctuary cities. The solution is to make English official and to make it illegal to require an employee/company/forms to be bilingual in order to get a job/service customers/etc. This will take the pressure to adapt off Americans providing services and put it back on to immigrants.
I also think there's a belief that legality has an impact on how much someone adapts. If someone comes legally, as an immigrant, they expect to become Americans and do what Americans do. So they learn the laws, customs and language and try to do what we do. On the other hand the illegals and guest workers don't plan to stay. They know they can be deported at any time. ETC. They also have some interesting ideas about who the southwest belongs to. So they are maladaptive and don't make the effort. Instead they form their own network and stay below the radar. They may have been maladaptive before coming to America evidenced by their refusal to stay in their country and go along with their own traditions or whatever. They may have been criminals. They were willing to become criminals by coming here illegally. So it may already be part of their character and whether or not they learn English is the least of their therefore our worries.
Stop hiring Illegal Immingrants!?
True it should be a requirement to live in a country that you are willing to learn the language. But i do not think it is an issue of people "refusing" to learn. It is quite a hard task for people to learn a new language right of the bat and with increasing in age the harder it is to learn. I'm sure they are willing and able to learn but its not really that simple is it? Why not try a little patience and tolerance. How soon could you learn to speak Lithuanian if you choose to immigrate to Lithuania for example? Quiet a while im sure.
How long will it take to receive my immigrant visa after it has been approved?
I haven't figured this out either.
It's annoying. Especially the ones who work dealing with English customers. >_>
The problem isn't even that they don't know it. If they are trying to learn and speak it, then I couldn't care less if they are bad at it because they are TRYING.
The problem is they come to an ENGLISH country and won't learn to speak english. It is like if I went to Mexico or any Spanish speaking country and refused to learn. They would think I was being stupid.
As they are.
Hi, guys i just like to ask if I'm able to go to the Taiwan?
people who don't speak English are not ignorant..... rather they are non-English speaking..... your first premise is not cogent!!!!!!
secondly, people do learn to speak English but you must understand that for an educated person to learn a second language at a cognitive academic proficiency level..... linguists say it takes 7 years....... and imagine those who come here with little or no education.... no reading or writing skills...... it takes longer having to learn a language without understand letter-word-sound correspondence!!!!!!!
there is your non-racists answer!!!!!
Lindsey Graham says he wants to borrow 4.4 Million from the treasury to secure the borders?
Because they don't want to live here , they only want to make money and send it home to help their country . That's called robbing from the rich and sending to the poor .
Most understand it , but won't speak it and when they are standing in line they are talking about you too .
Look up LaRaza and see what their up to .
The answer is becuase almost everywhere they go there's translators who do the work for them giving them an excuse to not learn english.
Simply? Because we allow it. My job options as a health worker in California are limited because I dont know spanish. I find it insulting that my ancestors worked to learn the language, up to my 90 year old great great grandfather when they immigrated, but a 30 year old from mexico refuses becuase it's part of their "culture". There is no excuse for illeagal immigration, none the less illegal immigration with blatant disrespect to the country they are illegally living in on top of it. America needs to quit being so politically correct, because quite frankly, it's horse s*it. It's a slap in the face to anyone who ever has or ever will come to America LEGALLY, learned the language, and been a contributing member to socity to have Spanish be a wide spread accepted spoken/written language. We have made "corrections" to cater to the Hispanic population (a great number of which are illegal) to the point that they get offended if there isnt Spanish translation immidatly available to them.
I say we as Americans need to stand up and say "this is America, not Mexico or any other country. Learn English, for it is the only offical language spoken here. If Emergency translation is needed, then yes, it will be provided, but hence you must enroll in a english teaching program." Call me racest if you want to, but I know I'm not.
By the way... "Melting Pot of America" means that people may come from where they are, but they all meld into our country that is America. Keep your cultre and traditions, but also take on the traditions of your new country and home. English is a large part of that, if you're not to willing become fully American, then dont come here.
In memory of my great grandfather, proud Italian-American... 1/24/1904-2/3/2007
How long has it been since slavery got to an end?
Yes, that is stupid...
If illegal immigration is so harmless why is this country starting to boil ?
Because they feel we should cater to them by learning THEIR language.
iam just arrived from indonesia and want to work in la but i only have b2 visa?
Where did you ever get this information. Do you personally know someone who has refused to learn English or are you parroting something you have seen on Faux news or heard on whacko talk radio....
I think you are misinformed, in any case.
Why is it that the people who complain about illegal immigration are always white?
My great-grandparents were from Italy, and they learned to speak English. They still spoke Italian at home, but every where else, English. And they made dang sure their kids did too. In their minds it was disrespectful to be in a country and not speak their language.
