Supposedly we are building a fence at the border, but only 17 miles of the wrong sort is up even tho $800 million remains in the account funded for this purpose in October under the secure fence act. The national guard was temporarily stationed there, but they are starting to be removed here and there, and weren't allowed to do much anyhow.
I agree with the person above who speaks to overstayers, although I don't know why they consider crossers v. overstayers to break down between Mexicans and non-Mexicans. Our long mandated visa exit tracking system isn't in place yet, either.

20 - 40 million. They have built a very small portion of the fence which is worthless since they are letting in trucks from mexico. So they are doing nothing. I think they know there are less jobs here and deportations are taking place.

There is no exact figure, but the guesstimate is that between 12 and 18 million people are here illegaly. What am I doing at the border to prevent people from crossing? Well, I pay taxes, so hopefully the gov't will put some of that $$$ to good use... (wishful thinking, I know..)

last i heard there was 20 million illegals here, 12 million are from mexico, the rest come from different parts of the world, they let their visas run out. 90% of americans are against illegals being here. this is for art class? how strange, art class.

The "unofficial" estimate from a number of "watchdog" groups that are VERY reliable on such matters --- puts the number at or very near the 18 million figure !!
And, as far as what is being done to "prevent this"
Damn near nothing !! What we are experiencing here -- is a government supported INVASION OF FOREIGN NATIONALS !! Almost every measure that has BEEN in place in the last some while that WAS working -- has been circumvented within the last three years --- Measures that were allocated funds to ADD protection against such acitivities --- have been relegated to the sidelines in a sea of beauracatic garbage !! And, new measures that have been streamlined to the front of the line in the current administrations red hot run to the North American Union --- is NOW allowing thousands of Mexican trucks to flow freely across the border with little to no checking them whatsoever !! With the illegals' transportation into this country being as lucrative as it is ---- What do YOU think these free flowing trucks from Mexico are carrying ---- pinnatas ??
